I Am (Human:Beautiful)

Human:Beautiful by Kerry JK

Amazing, fantastic
Human:Beautiful
Amazing, fantastic
Human:Beautiful

Human:Beautiful…

Do you feel insignificant and lost?
Do you fear you’re wasting life just chasing par?
Take comfort knowing that the creature in the mirror
Is not necessarily the person that you are
Are trapped in a cocoon not of your making
Built from expectations heaped on you since accident of birth?
Break down the walls and let your wings unfold
And show the world exactly what you’re worth

If they try to put you in your place
To put you in disgrace
You look them in the eye and say,
I am!

I am amazing
I am fantastic
I am human
I am beautiful
You can’t control me
You won’t destroy me
I have strength, I have power
I’m on top of the world

Do you worry about what other people think?
Let no-one else dictate what you should be
A battle fought and lost can still be worth the cost
Respect is rarely given out for free
Do you compare yourself unfavourably to others?
Do you think yourself the ugly duckling shunned by all the rest?
Throw down your mask and show your real face
And make the world accept you at your best

And if they try to put you in your place
To put you in disgrace
And make you want to hide your face
If they try to put you in your place
You just look them in the eye
And you tell them with a smile,
These words:
I am!

I am amazing
I am fantastic
I am human
I am beautiful
You can’t control me
You won’t destroy me
I have strength, I have power
I’m on top of the world

Amazing, fantastic
Human:Beautiful
Amazing, fantastic

Lottery Of Birth

Human:Beautiful by Kerry JK

Where to begin with original sin
Order spare rib and twist hard as you stick it in
Play the game of who’s to blame
Know your place in the human race
Meet the world with the right look about your face
Daughters and sons
Zeroes and ones

It’s not between the legs or in the shape of the eyes
Everybody’s born under similar skies
You can’t determine a person’s worth
From lottery of birth

Rip it up and start all over again
A tuxedo for Barbie and a ballgown for Ken
Now’s the time, shift paradigm
Wear pink, wear blue, what are you going to do?
Is a picture on the bathroom door all there is to you?
Stop the hate, emancipate

It’s not between the legs or in the shape of the eyes
Everybody’s born under similar skies
You can’t determine a person’s worth
From lottery of birth

Follow your heart, no matter what they say
Why just pass when you can lead the way?

It’s in your media and it’s in your toys
Disney princesses and soldier boys
Who cares what you want to do
It’s already been all set out for you
Livestock sorted in a box
Chickens, hens and strutting cocks
“Why can’t you just be normal?”, they say
What’s normal anyway?
At school, at work
She’s such a bitch, he’s such a jerk
We’re all human in case you didn’t know
Just relax and go with the flow
Fight misogyny with androgyny
No surrender to the gender agenda
If you have a problem it’s yours, don’t mind me
No lottery of birth is going to bind me

The man on the street and the king of the land
Always attack what they don’t understand
Don’t think you know what I’m feeling inside
Take all your prejudice and cast it aside

It’s not between the legs or in the shape of the eyes
Everybody’s born under similar skies
You can’t determine a person’s worth
From lottery of birth

Follow your heart, no matter what they say.

Really Down Day

Human:Beautiful by Kerry JK

Too tired to care. too proud to suffer fools
Keep on the periphery and don’t engage the ghouls
When everything’s a trigger you’ve got to keep within your zone
Walk in a protective bubble all the way back home
It’s nobody’s fault, I just need to be alone
Don’t try to offer help, don’t think you must atone
I just need time to heal
I want the world to stay away
Let me find my own way through my really down day

The mirror is a bully and the telephone has bite
Too hot and cold at once to sleep at all at night
There’s a devil on my shoulder, his words cut like a knife
He can stop me living, but I’m damned if he’s going to take my life
Take it one day at a time, whatever gets you through
Anyone old distraction, whatever you can do
Just keep on pushing on, always find a way
Believe tomorrow won’t be a really down day.

Parallel

Human:Beautiful by Kerry JK

Another place, another time
Another corner of my mind
Somewhere to go to
When the world is getting much too close to bear
Is this a dream or is it real?
Is what’s real an illusion?
Do I get to choose, or is it already chosen?

So many times I have walked these streets
Postcards mapped from memory when I had to return
And my reflection’s not the one I know
Could these be memories of another life?

Another place, another time
Another place, another time
Another space, another mind…

Every time I close my eyes somewhere else arrives
A carousel in parallel
The vision I see
Is it just me?

Another world, a new society
An alternate humanity
Some people are familiar, but fundamentally changed
Is it all mine or is it shared?
Should I be proud, should I be scared?
Should I be myself, or someone else entirely?

On screens I have invaded worlds
Built up piecemeal out of zeroes and ones
In dreams I have run through fields
Of impulse sunlight and electric sheep

Another place, another time
Another place, another time
Another space, another mind…

Every time I close my eyes somewhere else arrives
A carousel in parallel
The vision I see
Is it just me?

Edith Alone

Human:Beautiful by Kerry JK

You ran a tight ship back when the children were growing up
Under your feet
They had to be broken, or else how would they ever know
The done thing?
The weak can’t appreciate the loneliness and necessity of strength
You stand alone.

And then they had the audacity to grow up as themselves.
Forgetting who they are
Associating with Not Our Kind Of People
They had to be left to die
They’ll soon come back to beg for your forgiveness
You stand alone.

What do you stand for
Now that the world that you ruled is shut outside your door
Mighty on your throne
But not even the strength to pace the floor
Consumed with being right
And getting righter every day
You stand alone
You sit alone
You lie alone

This rock, this island, so many times conquered
The mongrel drew blood to rule the yard
Then grew complacent, convinced of its pedigree
Sold on eugenic purity
Roll up the drawbridge, hold back the invaders
They only come to ride your coattails
You stand alone.

What do you stand for
Now that the world that you ruled is shut outside your door
Mighty on your throne
But not even the strength to pace the floor
Consumed with being right
And getting righter every day
You stand alone
You sit alone
You lie alone
You die alone.

Be True

Human:Beautiful by Kerry JK

If though life owes you nothing, it delivers even less
If everything you try to build collapses in a mess
If the things supposed to cheer you are instead a source of stress
Be True

Be true to your inner self
It’s you, there is no-one else
Let nobody take that away…

If you feel yourself misquoted, vilified, misunderstood
If all the good you try to do is trampled in the mud
If your heart calls you to action, but you’re not sure if you should

Be true
Be true to your inner self
It’s you, there is no-one else
Let nobody take that away…

If you find yourself mistreated, discouraged and ignored
While the bullies that attack you are rewarded and adored
The movement of the seasons doesn’t care about crown or sword
Be true

Be true to your inner self
It’s you, there is no-one else
Let nobody take that away.

Arrested For Smiling

Human:Beautiful by Kerry JK

Sometimes I’m happy, sometimes I’m Blue
But most times I’m miserable
‘Cause it just ain’t cool to be happy

Don’t go around enjoying life
That behaviour will just annoy
You don’t want to be arrested for smiling
Everyone knows life is the worst
Don’t act like it ain’t so bad
Don’t want to be seen to be lowering your standards

Life is obviously drudgery
So don’t you have fun except at the allotted times
Else it just ain’t cool to happy

Don’t go around enjoying life
That behaviour will just annoy
You don’t want to be arrested for smiling
Everyone knows life is the worst
Don’t act like it ain’t so bad
Don’t want to be seen to be lowering your standards

There are people in this world
Who would be seriously out of pocket
If the problems of this world
Could be sorted out tomorrow
A man could never be happy in an ideal world
It would make him feel uneasy
He’d need a reason to complain
To moan about your lot
Is like a part of the human condition
That is easily upset
By the sight of some smug character
Who is happy with his life
And if you see someone smiling
Like a crocodile
You run a mile
‘Cause you never know what they’re thinking
If social rejection is your choice
Just put on a happy voice
Go out and make a happy noise
But people will think you’re up to something
Put on a frown
All over town
Always look down
You’ll find it makes you popular
Misery Guts are in this season.

Sunlight In The Heart Of The Machine

Human:Beautiful by Kerry JK

Trapped in a state of insecurity
Who’s to blame for this?
How can we be rid of that?
Burning up the land, it’s hard to understand
How quickly unity’s upset
Are the people that you’ve never met
The ones you see around you all the time?

It’s a big world with a billion minds
And not much time to explore it all
Chase your dream, although it might not be seen
There is sunlight in the heart of the machine

Demons in high places pitch and stoke the fire
While angels close their wings
Too afraid to try new things
Ducking and surviving while their neighbours burn
Mob mentality’s at play
Hate and distrust rules the day
Who will be left to speak for you?

It’s a big world with a billion minds
And not much time to explore it all
Chase your dream, although it might not be seen
There is sunlight in the heart of the machine

The clock keeps ticking ’till it comes back around
Worked by friction, wound by fear
Everybody knows the mistakes of the past
But they’re so sure it could never happen here
Are you ready for the coming war?
Does it make you want it any more?
But there’s a glimmer in the sea of faces
Life finds a way in the darkest places

It’s a big world with a billion minds
And not much time to explore it all
Chase your dream, although it might not be seen
There is sunlight in the heart of the machine

Never Been Rich/Never Been Bored

Human:Beautiful by Kerry JK

There comes a time when you’re against the wall
You wonder what you’ve got to show for it all
When your dreams have only gone so far
And all you’ve got is who you are

Well, I’ve done a few things for a laugh
And the odd thing that I shouldn’t have
I’ve made good friends that I’m grateful for
And I’ve alienated even more
The world doesn’t stop when I start to play
But I’ll keep on doing it anyway
It’s not a crime to be ignored
I’ve never been rich but I’ve never been bored

I can’t talk without saying wrong
That’s why I express myself through song
I can’t help if I’m misunderstood
But my integrity was always good
I’ll never make the headlines, that’s the truth
You can’t change the world from a sideshow booth
At least I can stand by every word
I’ve never been rich but I’ve never been bored

I found myself and I found self hate
I found love, but I had to wait
I found God and became devout
I tried fitting in but it didn’t work out

I rode the wind with full set sails
I went over the edge and I went off the rails
Sometimes it feels like your only hope
Is the edge of a blade or a length of rope
But whatever happens, come what may
I’m never checking out that way
I’m saved by every note and chord
I’ve never been rich but I’ve never been bored

Never been rich, but I’ve never been bored
Never been rich, but I’ve never been bored
Everywhere I look I see
People with problems worse than me
There’s not much I need that I can’t afford
I’ve never been rich but I’ve never been bored.
